I chose Bank of America for my mortgage despite being warned by my agent not to. I am sorry I did not listen. Though they appeared to have a better rate, their closing costs are higher, and on closing date we learned of extra insurance we were required to take out. That added an unexpected expense. But more than that, despite the "commitment to close on time" with a $500 payment if they could not, they considered the fact that they were ready at 4:00 pm for a 1:00 pm closing "on time" since it was still the same day. The only reason that we actually were able to close that day is because at 9:30 that morning, I emailed to ask how much I needed to wire to the lawyer for the closing costs. They suggested I play it safe and wire an extra $3,000 just in case. That is a large sum to find in 2 hours notice. They were unable to produce the correct numbers repeatedly so my lawyer worked with them through the morning until they were able to produce the correct numbers at which point they apparently had a systems failure. We arrived at the closing and were told they were unsure when the system would be up again. We had to take off of work again at the end of the afternoon when the system was running again. When I wrote to BoA to explain all of their errors and our need to compensate for them, they replied that they still considered themselves on time since the closing was done by the end of the day. I suggest you NOT use BoA unless you are willing to do a lot of the footwork yourself and flexible enough to spend your whole day waiting for the closing. If you think the lender should lead you through the closing process, BoA is not for you.

There are far superior banks that will keep your money local instead of using it on credit default schemes, to fund drug cartels, or provide arms for guerrillas. Bank somewhere else, this company is what is wrong with the world.

1 of the 4 or 5 of their pens actually work, they NEVER answer their phone, and they tellers are slow and want to have long conversations with their customers while there is a line waiting.

Poor experience. Came two days in a row with one one teller working. The wait has always been over 30 mins to see a teller.
